OUR MARKET Garden
The land at TOAD Hall has a long history of nourishing the community. From traditional kūmara plots to the days of Fry’s Fruit Bowl, this has always been a place where food and connection grow side by side. Continuing that legacy feels like the natural path forward.
Since 1998, we’ve been developing our market garden with care and intention. It’s a slow and passionate process, guided by our commitment to sustainability and respect for the environment. Over the past 17 years, we’ve added hundreds of tonnes of organic compost and Biodynamic preparations to the soil, working to restore and enrich the land while removing invasive weeds and waste.
Today, you’ll see the fruits of that labour — literally — in our store and on your plate in the restaurant. It’s a project that continues to evolve, and we’re excited by all the possibilities still to come.
